Tyagaraja Swamy was ardent devotee and writer, singer. He added Bhakti, Karma in his songs. Through his songs he tried to change the society towards Dharma.
Though he belongs to Karnataka, he traveled all places and had darshan of all gods.
When he came to Tirumala for darshan of Lord Balaji, a curtain was between Tyagayya and Lord, may be due to Sevas (Nivedyam time), but he took to his to heart. Actually curtain is a Physical obstacle between him and God, but He thought it was obstacle.
If it is a Minister or some other VIPs, they would have ordered to remove the curtain. Even ordinary man, leave about VIPs, if Darshan is delayed, they will shout, gherao, or atleast scold the VIPs and others. But Tyagayya, instead, he took the pain and the responsibility for not having darshan.
Tyagayya sang 'arthiga' and the curtain automatically gone and had darshan of Lord.
He described the situation as While eating a fly coming in between
A fish, thinking of bait as food and get caught
Light of deepam is covered by some obstacle and full light is not there.
He lastly described 'madam and matsaram' are coming in between me and you, remove my 'madamatsaram' and make it happen of your darshan.
One most important thing we have to observe is he mentioned 'madamatsaram' as singular means both are one.
'madam and matsaram' are 2 different, generally we will call 'madamatsaralu' .
Whatever I understood from the poem, written. If anything is not correct or understood in a different way, please inform me, I will correct myself.
